A full sidewall and a wood core produce a settled, stable connection with the snow along the whole length of the ski. A thin layer of steel steadies the ski and gives it control, especially at high speeds on hard snow. Tip and tail rockers don’t just help you initiate turns, they make descending easier, because they make the ski easier to drift and turn under harder conditions.
